Top golfer Lee Westwood has launched a new Golf Academy at Close House. The new academy will be in partnership with The Co-operative and Activate Sport.
The Lee Westwood Golf Academy, takes place across 7 locations in the UK, and will come to Close House Golf Club in 25-27 July 2012, with opportunities for children 7-16 years old to learn new golf skills with support from some of the best coaches in the sport. Close House will look to attract young golfers from the North East, Cumbria and Scotland.
The coaching programme, which has been put together by Westwood and his team of experts covers every aspect of the game and will be spread over a three-day period. ‘Off-course’ sessions to teach young people about good etiquette, rules, marking your card, nutrition, fitness and psychology will also be available.
John Glendinning General Manager of Close house quoted “It’s is a real honour to have Lee Westwood as out Attached Tour Professional, and to be able to provide top class coaching and techniques with Lee to junior golfers across the North of England is the perfect next step to our relationship. We need academies like this to encourage young people to get into golf and keep fit. And for those who are already interested it’s all about improving their game and skills so hopefully we can find the next Lee Westwood here in the North east. This is also an opportunity for our own golf professionals to improve their skills from a world class player’.
Each camp allocates one coach to every ten juniors, allowing each attendee the chance to receive intensive coaching and first class expertise to help them improve their game. All juniors who attend the Lee Westwood Golf Academy at Close House will also receive a personalised feedback form, highlighting their strengths and suggested areas for improvement.
In addition to coaching, there will also be a competitive element to the courses, with juniors invited to play in a series of competitions covering every aspect of the game. Competitions will be run for different age groups with several prize packages offered for the juniors to enjoy the experience regardless of how well they do.
Lee Westwood quoted “I am very proud of my Academy and the opportunity it presents for young golfers. The Lee Westwood Academy is all about learning about the game whilst having fun.
I really hope that the Academies can help hundreds more young people engage with the sport I love so much and get the same enjoyment that I have had out of this great game.”
