2011 has been a notable year for Close House with the opening of Colt Course, No.19 and the appointment of Lee Westwood as our attached Tour Professional to name only three. It’s no secret that I am looking to make further enhancements to what we offer at Close House to ensure we become the number one golf destination in the North of England.

To help us move forward and achieve our targets I am delighted to formally announce the appointment of Russell Smith as Director of Golf at Close House. Russell is the former Head Golf Pro and head of Golf Operations at Gleneagles Golf Course in Scotland and this is a major coup for the North East. There is no doubt that his experience in running an extremely high profile, large golf club will perfectly complement General Manager John Glendinning’s experience. John has worked hard to bring to fruition the completion of the state of the art glass clubhouse (No 19), championship Colt Course, cutting edge golf academy and driving range, all launched in May this year. Their combined skills, enthusiasm and experience will take Close House to the position of top golf venue in the North of England. Our heavyweight team, steeped in golf, combined with the appointment of Lee Westwood as our Attached Tour Professional earlier this year, gives Close House a truly unique edge across the UK and beyond.

I intend to make Close House the best golf club in the North of England and one where everyone will want to be a member. I’m delighted that our membership continues to increase at a fast pace. This means that it will become more and more difficult to join Close House when we achieve our target number of members. So please don’t forget to renew your membership by the end of this week to avoid disappointment and guarantee your Founder Membership status.

If you haven’t already booked your Christmas party or you want to have a festive celebration then look no further than Close House.

Party in the beautifully decorated No.19 the perfect location for your festive celebrations. The evening will include a drink on arrival a 3 course meal with coffee prepared by our Chef Simon Walsh and his No.19 team.  We have entertainment from Vincent McCormack, the brilliant Irish singer who recently appeared at the CHUF event at Newcastle Racecourse, then dance the night away into the early hours.

Alternatively choose to party in the Hotel in the beautifully decorated Ballroom.  With a beautiful Christmas tree, wonderful decorations, Christmas cocktail,  3 course dinner and disco in the Hotel make the party nights a truly memorable occasion.
